Sexually Active People Take Fewer Sick Days

Sex is a natural part of life. Yet, it seems to be a topic many people do not like to discuss freely. Sex is in some ways is looked down upon and thought of as a taboo, by older generations. Sex in this generation is always associated with a sexually transmitted disease or some sort of double standard. However, it is extremely important to be knowledgeable on the pros and the cons of sex, especially if you are sexually active. There are constant discussions on the cons, it is necessary to shed some light on the pros. This may sound surprising but “sexually active people take fewer sick days.” Said Yvonne K. Fulbright, PhD. Being sexually active helps keep a strong immune system, because the body has higher levels of what fights off germs, and viruses. College students who have sex once or twice a week had higher levels of that antibody compared to students who had sex less often, according to researchers at Wilkes University in Pennsylvania. There have also been many studies between sex and blood pressure, “one landmark study found that sexual intercourse specifically (not masturbation) lower systolic blood pressure,” Says Joseph J. Pinzone, MD. Sex can be a form of exercise, burning about five calories per minute according to WebMD. Being sexually active can lower heart attack risks by keeping your estrogen and testosterone levels in balance. Many studies have found that your risk of dying from a heart disease such as stroke or heart attack can be lessened with frequent orgasms. “Orgasm can block pain,” says Barry R. Komisaruk, PhD, it releases a hormone that helps raise your pain threshold. Sex can also reduce the risk of prostate cancer, one study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association explain that men who ejaculate frequently (at least 21 times a month) were less likely to get prostate cancer. Last but not least, it can improve sleep. “After orgasm, the hormone prolactin is released, which is responsible for the feelings of relaxation and sleepinees,” says Sheenie Ambardar, MD. As a college student it is very important to a full nights sleep. If you are sexually active I hope you feel more confident and proud about having sex, and if you are not sexually active this list can help you understand some of the benefits that are in store.
